Today’s customers and consumers rely on one main thing to learn about businesses: the internet. No matter what your presence is on the web, it’s absolutely vital that you have a great and appealing website to represent your business or company. Unfortunately, your website should do more than just educate your audience about your business– it should be modern, aesthetically pleasing, and fully functioning. Without these elements, you’re likely to be driving business away from you– and that’s before they even step foot in your store, or even try to contact you!
If you’re worried that your website might not be representing your business as best as it possibly can, don’t sweat it. Here are some easy ways to tell that you need a new website:
- Design. Take a look at the design of your website, and particularly the fonts. Does it look outdated, or more on trend with current styles and designs? If it looks like it’s from the 90’s, it’s time for an update. Pick more minimal designs where the focus is on colors, images, and avoid gimmicky fonts like Papyrus or Comic Sans. Try to make your design more contemporary, fun, and engaging, so your audience feels compelled to stay on and explore your website.
- Mobile. If you can’t view your website properly on your mobile device or smartphone, that’s a bad sign. Mobile websites have roughly 12% more visitors, and if a potential customer can’t view your site on their phone, they’ll immediately be driven away. Non-compatibility with mobile devices is one of the biggest signs that you need a new website!
- Content. There are a few things that you can check in your content that could tell you that you need to update your website. First, check that your content is up to date without any old or inaccurate information, like an old address or phone number, or old events. Second, check your latest copyright. Is it from the last year or so, or is it from a decade ago? If your answer is the latter, then you need a new website. Lastly, check on the quality of your content, like images and flash animation. Images that look like clipart, photos with bad or low quality, and moving images are big signs that your website is outdated and will drive away pretty much anyone from your site.
- Loading Times. More times than not, old content and outdated designs will take longer to load. The longer users have to wait, the more likely they are to leave, and unfortunately, that window of time isn’t very long. With modern and fast internet speeds, most users won’t wait longer than 3 seconds for something to load, and 30% of users will leave after 4 seconds of loading. At 5 seconds, 60% of people will leave! Make sure you’re optimizing your website for speed and fast loading times.
